How to Register Correctly and Avoid Rejection
Registering for PM Kisan is more than just filling out a form. Doing it correctly from the start can save you months of delays. Here are the steps with expert tips:
- Go to the Official Portal: Visit the official website at
pmkisan.gov.inand find the ‘New Farmer Registration’ link. - Enter Aadhaar and Mobile Number: Provide your Aadhaar number and the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. This is critical for receiving the OTP.
- Fill in the Application Form: The form will auto-fill some details from Aadhaar. You must manually enter your land details (Khata/Khasra number), category, and bank account information.
- Upload Your Land Documents: You must upload a scanned copy (PDF) of your land ownership document (Farad, Khatauni, etc.).
Pro Tip: Make sure the PDF is clear, readable, and under the specified file size limit to avoid rejection. - Submit the Form: After filling in all details, submit the form. You will get a Farmer ID or Registration ID. Keep this number safe!
Eligibility Checklist: Are You Actually Eligible?
Many applications are rejected because farmers misunderstand the eligibility rules. Use this checklist to be sure.
- Do you own cultivable land? You must have land registered in your name.
- Is your family income below the exclusion criteria? High-income individuals are not eligible.
- Does any family member hold a government job? Most government employees (central or state) make the family ineligible. This is a common reason for rejection. (Exceptions exist for lower-level Multi-Tasking Staff / Group D employees).
- Does any family member pay income tax? If any member of the family paid income tax in the last assessment year, the family is not eligible.
- Is any family member a professional? Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, etc., are generally not eligible.
Documents You MUST Have Ready (And How to Prepare Them)
- Aadhaar Card: This is mandatory. Ensure your name and mobile number are correctly updated on it.
- Land Ownership Papers (Khatauni/Farad): Get the most recent copy from your local land records office (Tehsil). The document must clearly show your name as the owner.
- Bank Account Passbook: The account must be in the applicant’s name.
Crucial Tip: The bank account MUST be “seeded” with your Aadhaar for DBT/NPCI payments. Visit your bank and specifically ask them to confirm “Aadhaar NPCI Seeding.” This is the #1 reason payments fail. - Aadhaar-linked Mobile Number: You cannot complete the process without the OTP sent to this number.
How to Track Your Application and Payments
There are two ways to check your status, and they show different things. Understanding the difference is important.
- Beneficiary List: This list simply shows the names of all farmers in a village who are registered. It is useful to confirm that your registration is complete, but it does not tell you if your payments are coming or if there is a problem.
- Beneficiary Status: This is the most important link. It shows you the detailed status of your account, including your eKYC status, Land Seeding status, and the status of every single installment. This is where you will find error messages like “Bank Rejection” or “Land Seeding: No.” You can check this using your Registration Number or Mobile Number.
