How to Register Online: A Step-by-Step Guide with Expert Tips

Follow these steps carefully to avoid common mistakes.

  1. Visit the Official Portal: Go to the official website pmkisan.gov.in and click on the ‘New Farmer Registration‘ link in the “Farmers Corner” section.
  2. Enter Aadhaar & Mobile: You will be asked if you are a Rural or Urban farmer. Select the correct option. Enter your Aadhaar number and the mobile number that is linked to your Aadhaar.
Pro-Tip: If your mobile number is not linked to your Aadhaar, you must visit an Aadhaar center to get it updated first. You cannot proceed without this.
  3. Fill Out the Form: After OTP verification, a detailed form will open. It will pull some information from your Aadhaar. You must manually enter your State, District, Bank details, and personal information.
  4. Enter Land Details Correctly: This is the most critical step. You must enter your land registration details. You will be asked to add your ‘Khata No’ or ‘Khasra No’ and the area in Hectares. This information must perfectly match your official land record document.
Pro-Tip: Get a fresh copy of your land records (Farad/Jamabandi/Khatauni) from your local Patwari or land records office before you start. Copy the details exactly as they appear on that document.
  5. Upload Documents: You will be required to upload a PDF of your land record document. Make sure the PDF scan is clear, all text is readable, and the file size is less than the limit mentioned on the portal (usually around 150kb). A blurry or unreadable document will cause rejection.
  6. Submit and Save Your ID: After you submit the form, you will receive a Registration ID or Farmer ID. Write this down or take a screenshot. You will need this ID to check the status of your application.

What Happens After You Register? (The Approval Process)

Submitting the form is only the beginning. Your application now goes through multiple levels of verification:

  • State/District Level: Officials will check your submitted land records against the official government data. This is where “Land Seeding” happens.
  • PFMS/Bank Verification: The system checks if your bank account is valid and if your Aadhaar is correctly seeded with the bank account for receiving DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) payments.

This entire process can take several weeks or even months. You can check the progress using the “Status of Self-Registered Farmer” link on the PM Kisan portal.

FAQs of PM Kisan Registration 2025

My application has been ‘Pending for approval at State/District level’ for months. What should I do?

This is a very common problem. It usually means there is an issue with the land details you submitted. The best solution is to physically visit your Tehsil/Block Agriculture Officer’s office. Take copies of your online application, Aadhaar card, and land records with you. They can check the internal system and tell you the exact reason for the delay or manually approve it if everything is correct.

Can I register if the land is in my father’s name?

No. The PM Kisan scheme is for land-holding farmers. The land must be registered in the name of the applicant. If the land is in your father’s name, he is the one who is eligible to apply, not you.

How do I fix a mistake I made after submitting the registration form?

Until recently, editing a submitted form was very difficult. However, the portal now has an option for ‘Updation of Self Registered Farmer’ in the Farmers Corner. You can use this link to try and correct details like your Aadhaar number or other information. If you cannot correct the mistake there, you will have to visit the Agriculture Department office for assistance.
